Ordered AmigaOS 4.1 FE Classic PPC

So I purchased Amiga Forever 2016 and have it already setup and running. I already had a version from several years ago, but I decided it was time to get the newer version.

Along with a recent purchase of AF2016, I also bought AmigaOS 4.1 FE for Classic PPC systems. I've read several have already installed it with AF2016, so I am hoping to join in the AOS 4.1 fun here in the next few days. A recent email that I received from Amigakit indicates that it's on its way. I decided on purchasing the physical media as I like having the physical product, especially since the first AOS update I purchased since 3.0 was included on my A1200 back in 1993.

Hopefully I'll have good luck getting 4.1 installed on the VM.

I am also hoping that the 4.1 SDK has good documentation for AmigaOS programming; particularly GUI and 2D programming.

 Icaros Desktop New Install I had some extra time recently, so I decided to try out the Icaros Desktop  2.2.5, which was released in December 2018. Icaros Desktop is an AmigaOS clone that runs on x86 hardware. Icaros is based upon Aros. Aros in an operating system that can be installed on an x86 computer and it requires no host operating system to run. AmigaOS 4.1 FE PPC Classic on WinUAE

So I have been using AmigaOS 4.1 Final Edition Classic on WinUAE for a few months now. Here are some of my observations. Before I continue I must say again that this review is based on an emulated AmigaOS PPC Classic, so I do not know if my troubles discussed below are the result of emulation or of the OS. I enjoy working in OS4.1 but I tend to encounter problems that I had on my stock A1200 under OS 3.0: crashes. In OS4.1 I still experience frequent system crashes. The GrimReaper app does catch some programs before the program takes down the system, but it doesn't catch everything. I also seem to run out of memory often. This is particularly true with CodeBench, which is what I use to test-drive some C/C++ programming on OS4.1. Web browsing is a bit frustrating. I've tried OWB, Odyssey, IBrowse, and NetSurf. FreeBSD and OpenBSD in Hyper-V - First Attempts

So I wanted to try out the  new FreeBSD 13.1. Rather than installing it onto a physical computer, I decided to try creating a virtual machine in Hyper-V.  Hyper-V is a Microsoft product, and it was all I am able to use in the work environment that I am in. In a previous experiment I was able to create a Linux Mint virtual machine in Hyper-V with no problems.  However, I did encounter problems setting up FreeBSD 13.1 in Hyper-V. I eventually gave-up on getting FreeBSD 13.1 to work in Hyper-V. I tried a few different ideas, but I was never able to get X-Windows to recognize the keyboard. The keyboard worked fine to type in startx, but once X started, the keyboard wouldn't work.  It was a little disappointing not being able to get FreeBSD working in Hyper-V, but alas, some times such things happen.
