Commodore OS Vision 2 on Dell Latitude 5511 i7 32GB Laptop
I'm experimenting with trying to run the Commodore OS Vision 2 system on different computers.
I work in IT, so I have access to various computers. Mostly Dell computers since that's the standard where I work.
For the first test, I tried the Commodore OS Vision 2 bootable ISO on a Dell Latitude 5511 BTX Intel i7 32GB RAM laptop.
The OS detected the Ethernet connection and allowed me to access the Internet with no issues. I haven't figured out the Wifi yet, so that's a work in progress.
I managed to use Bluetooth and connect a wireless Dell WL5022 headset (in the image above it's shown on the left side of the screen). It was successfully tested with YouTube audio and local audio testing as well. The integrated speakers worked as well. I used it as a mobile music station listening to music while I moved around working on setting up computers and such.
This laptop does not have a DVD drive, so that was not tested.
Overall the OS is very responsive on the laptop. I only ran the Commodore OS from the jump-drive ISO; I did not attempt to install the OS onto the laptop. Perhaps in the future I'll install the OS onto the hard drive. I did, however, install the Commodore OS onto the hard disk of a Dell Optiplex 3060 desktop; more on that in a future article.
I did try booting the CommodoreOS Vision 2 ISO on a Dell Precision 5680 laptop. Unfortunately, the 5680 only has USB-C ports and attempting to boot from the USB-A/B jumpdrive in a USB hub failed and also booting from a USB-A/B slot in a Dell Docking station also failed. The failure was due to the system freezing at the prompt for setting up "/dev" devices. Maybe the system would boot from a USB-C jumpdrive, but I'll try that another time.
For the Dell Latitude 5511 laptop; however, the Commodore OS Vision 2 seems to run well from the ISO.
Until the next post, happy computing.
